A message from Canada Bread:

Back to Consumer Alerts

Description:

We want to address an important matter related to Canada Bread. We have resolved allegations made against the organization as part of an investigation by the Competition Bureau of Canada regarding the price of bread.

Canada Bread has agreed to pay a $50 million fine in relation to two wholesale price increases that occurred more than a decade ago, one in 2007 and again in 2011. It’s important to note that these price increases took place when Canada Bread was majority owned and controlled by Maple Leaf Foods.

In 2014, Canada Bread was acquired by Grupo Bimbo.
It was only in 2017 that Grupo Bimbo learned about the matter. Since then, under Grupo Bimbo’s ownership, Canada Bread has provided full and consistent cooperation with the Competition Bureau.

Grupo Bimbo is considering all legal options against those responsible for the conduct at issue.. We are committed to ensuring that the necessary actions are taken to address this matter appropriately.

Canada Bread is committed to delivering high quality products and maintaining the trust of our customers. We take great pride that our products are made by Canadians, for Canadians.
